New Song!

So I got some new music software last night, because my old programs were starting to show their age.

I've always been interested in soundtrack music, and I'm excited about this little "test" song I whipped up last night:

I call it "The Huntress", and I may still tweak it a little, but it's mostly finished. I probably wont release it on an album anyway, given it's not the genre I'm shooting for, but I might use elements of the composition in any live shows or some sort of intro or interlude on a disc. We'll see.

What do you think?

Special thanks to the Ashe Choir & the Skye Symphony for their contributions. (LOL)

To Stream or not to Stream?

I don't buy music. Okay, if it's Pink, or another major influence artist, I do, to support them, but mostly because I'm a collector of her music on physical format.

But just because I don't buy music, doesn't mean I don't pay for it when I listen to it. For the past five years or so, I have subscribed to either Napster or Rhapsody, and paid up to $15 a month to listen to music on-demand. This is just a much more versatile and convenient way for me to listen to my favorite music, especially considering I spend 80% of my time at a desk.

My album is 100% demoed! (is that a word?)

After taking inventory this evening, I was surprised to find that I have written and completed demos for 10 songs, and have 2 cover demos done too. I also have about 4 more tracks that are still in progress but nearly finished. Considering that I was shooting for 12 complete songs on my album, It's safe to say that the demo and writing process is complete! (Though, in actuality, writing is never done.)

I was really shocked to find this out. I didn't think I had anywhere near enough material ready to record, but it looks like I do!

This was really rewarding too, because I've really spent the last 10 years developing this stupid record. LOL, and I was beginning to question myself and my productivity.

So, Ive decided: Beginning in May, I will begin recording the vocals for each song, and polishing them.

I hope to have all the tracks recorded by Fall, so post production and launch plans can begin for a Spring release date. :)

This is a very relaxed schedule though. I hope that I can get things done sooner. We will see!

Here's my timeline: (Mostly written down so I can hold myself accountable! )

  • May 1 through August 31 - Record Record Record!
  • September 1 through September 31 - Polish & Post Production all tracks.
  • November 1 through November 31 - Mix & Master all tracks - Sneak peaks online.
  • January 1 through January 31 - Mastering, Package Production; begin marketing for February release.
Wow... if all goes right, by this time next year, I will be promoting my first record!
